5th and 6th graders have been reading "Fever 1793" by Laurie Halse Anderson, and this week they wrapped up some awesome character analysis posters!
They did such a great job digging into each character’s personality, challenges, and growth — and their posters turned out amazing! So proud of all their hard work and creativity!

5th and 6th graders had a blast today learning about the phases of the Moon—with a delicious twist! Using Oreos, students carefully “carved” out the cream to model each lunar phase, from new moon to full moon (and maybe snuck a bite or two in the process 😉)

5th and 6th grade participated in a pumpkin decorating contest. Please vote for your favorite in the comments! They all did such an amazing job.

Boo Bag orders are due tomorrow! They will be delivered on Wednesday, October 29th.

Please join us for a Trunk or Treat at the school this Saturday!

Day 30 of teaching: The 5th and 6th graders fought bravely in the Cotton Ball Dart Games. Numbers were defeated. Decimals trembled. Only long division remains...

5th and 6th grade have been busy learning all about the amazing systems that make up the human body! Working together in groups, they read different passages about the body’s organ systems and collaborated to answer questions, share ideas, and deepen their understanding.
Fun fact: Did you know that your heart beats about 100,000 times every single day!

The Shawnee Staff is having some fun with their Secret Spirit Week!

Congratulations to our September Students of the Month. These students were chosen by their teachers for showing FAIRNESS!

🇺🇸 Remembering 9/11 🇺🇸
5th and 6th grade reflected on the heroes of September 11, 2001. They learned about the Amazing Boat Rescues that safely carried thousands away from danger, and the incredible bravery of Carlos Perez, who put others before himself in a time of great fear.
Through writing, students honored the courage and selflessness of all who stepped forward that day to save others. Their words remind us that even in the darkest times, acts of kindness and bravery shine the brightest. ❤️

You're invited to our Book Fair Kickoff!

The 5th and 6th graders brought plant cells to life today in the most delicious way — using candy and jello to model the parts of a cell. From gummy vacuoles to licorice endoplasmic reticulum's, each piece of candy represented a different organelle. Hands-on learning like this helps make abstract concepts stick - and taste pretty great, too!

Thank you to the Johnson County Cattlemen for grilling hamburgers for our lunch today!!

Field Day Pics (Part 1)

With the threat of severe weather today, the 7th & 8th grade class chose to stay closer to home for our field trip. Sandy graciously opened up her home for the kids. They baked cupcakes, homemade sourdough pretzels, and chocolate chip cookies. They also enjoyed board games, some outside fun, and playing with the dogs.
