
STEM students had to survive obstacles today during Lego Disaster Island. Good news! All survived!





Students in grades 5-8 had a great time at the Children’s Literature Festival on the UCM campus! We learned about the writing process from Antony John, Roland Smith, and Beth Vrabel. Highlights were meeting the authors, asking them questions, and getting our books signed!




The 5th and 6th grade students had the opportunity to investigate the properties of unknown substances during science. They observed a reaction to see that an unknown gas was which was formed by using vinegar and baking soda. They observed the reaction and saw that it blew out a candle.






3rd and 4th grade are working on some math and reading test prep. We are in a March Madness competition where each day students answer reading and math questions and then can score points with our class "basketball." Today was a hit!




The fifth and sixth graders researched about watersheds in order to make posters to share what they learned.

The seventh and eighth grade students experimented with motors, batteries, switches, lights, and wires to create closed circuits to power the lights and motors.





1st and second grade enjoyed a fun science experiment involving different liquids and candy hearts.


1st and 2nd grade celebrated the 100th Day! They each completed a poster with 100 things on it!


3rd and 4th graders used multiplication and division to predict the score for the Super Bowl this weekend between the Chiefs and Eagles. Lock in your vote for which score you think will become a reality.

Shawnee students and staff are invited to celebrate the Super Bowl with Chiefs-related Spirit Days this week!


The 7th and 8th grade have been learning about Newton’s Laws. They applied what they have been learning this week to design a skyscraper that withstand strong winds. They used tissue boxes for their base and created their designs around them.





First and second grade practiced some new ELA skills utilizing new center rotations.





The 5th and 6th graders reviewed place value while completing a scavenger hunt.



The 7th and 8th graders put what they have been learning about volume to measure a variety of materials around the classroom to find the volume of them.





Due to current weather and road conditions, there will be no school today, Jan. 25th.

Lane Rathert brought in his Apollo 11 moon landing replica made from legos. This was a great finish to our moon unit in science. He explained to the class each part and showed us all the details.


The seventh and eighth grade have been learning about Newton’s Law of motion. They have done a variety of activities. They have practice how an object will stay at rest until acted on by an unbalanced force. They have also worked to find the center of mass a few different ways.





3rd and 4th grade made their own pizza fractions today. They had to equally split their circle according to the given fraction.





3rd and 4th grade have been studying the moon. Today, they demonstrated their knowledge of the phases of the moon with Oreos. They had a blast and even enjoyed the snack afterwards.
